OUR STORY
Stupid Fly’s founders, DJ Cheapshot, Chris Barnett, and Craig Smith, united through their mutual love of the music and culture to breathe new life to what many regard as the most significant period in hip-hop history – the Golden Era.
Having been a DJ since the late-80s, Cheapshot would draw inspiration from his musical idols with the intention of one day giving back to the culture. In the early-2000s, Cheapshot recognized that many of the legends responsible for laying the foundation of the biggest genre in music were slowly getting written out of history. This felt wrong.
Years later, Cheapshot fell in love with the emerging podcast medium. It was then when he noticed the opportunity to make good on his life promise of giving back. While so many “hip-hop heads” were rebranding their long-winded radio shows as “podcasts,” Cheapshot set out with the intent of creating art out of these timeless stories. To re-engage the millions of fans while creating a generation of new ones.
Cheapshot enlisted creative/production specialist, Craig Smith, and marketer/brand-builder, Chris Barnett, to help on this journey. Together, the team organized a collective and developed an elevated slate of productions for Stupid Fly, with the expressed purpose of engaging the community like never before.
May 2021, classic hip-hop will be reFRESHED when Stupid Fly releases its first highly produced podcast series, Fresh Era. Keeping true to the promise of uplifting the legends and the culture.
